Review
Great that you watched the film... Only plus in the movie is Vishal acting.. Let it be his look or voice modulation or his sitting style... He rules.. Other side, I dont think GK [highness] acting is very great [except few scenes like where he has clash with Arya and asks him to go out]... Bala was once saying that GK performance will be talked close to Sivaji's performance.. After watching the movie, I dont think Bala is true.. GK's performance is good, but not comparable or even near to Sivaji in acting aspect. Just think of Sivaji's performance in "Mudhal Mariyadhai" or the classic "Devar Magan".. That is what I call "performance".. We cannot see the charector anywhere out of the film.. But here i can see GK "acting" in many scenes. Quite not natural. I would rate the Pithamagan villan [ganja dealer] acting more than GK's performance. He was natural and excellent.
Another hope i had in the film was RK [villan]. First few scenes he appeared, his mannerism and look was classic.. But later he was just portrayed one other villan and beaten to death. Very bad on Bala.

One main thing missing was "story".... Earlier films of Bala had a very good story-line, let it be sethu or pithamagan or naan kadavul.. They had a very strong and appealing story line.. But here the story is completely missing.. Like Siva said, just few scenes tied around with comedy factor.. Bala could have given a strong warning to audience for not to expect too much out of this..
Annoying Scenes
1. Ambica fight with her sakkalathi... Lengthy..
2. Arya's scene with GK after Vishal gets appreciation from Surya
3. Love between Vishal and Baby... [in one review, they asked about how such girls love Vishal like charector]
4. Arya - tried to be like Surya in pithamagan.. but failed.. but he can feel happy about acting in Naan Kadavul.. Thats his masterpiece.
No Logic
1. Judge granting Arya to use his Car
2. Police releasing Arya/Vishal even after they messed up with three departments
3. Heroines loving Arya/Vishal like charectors
4. Villan RK running such a business is not known to GK/Police/Bluecross earlier

1. GK clad off and getting beaten by RK
2. Police Inspector giving treat [Briyani] to old accused..

1. Christianity - even in naan kadavul pooja goes to church - atleast that has some meaning, but here the church scene makes no sense

Could have been best
1. Crisp scene in first half - reducing the comedy part
2. Portraying RK more RAW.. - Climax not worth the build-up given to him
Expectation
1. Even if it takes two more years, Bala should think of an off-beat film like Pithamagan or Naan Kadavul.

ReplyDeleteFrom mail@Siva - me too watched it yday night.... A great disappointment only,except for Vishal's and highness's performance.... no riveting plot....just pieces of few good scenes hanging around without any justification.... and mostly a patch-up work of pithamagan...
ReplyDeleteEither Bala wud have stuck to his original style or he sud have worked it out well when trying different path.... Anyway hoping its going to be a learning for him after 4 good attempts....!

Machie nice narration, i had the same feel as below, when i was seeing the movie.
ReplyDeleteSo it is very clear from this that, bala needs minimum 2 years for a movie...if he is making it in 6 months then it will be half baked one like this....let us give him some time yaar...
Here they did not show the RK killing scene of GK (Highness)...was this scene a big one...they showed me RK sitting on GK bed and the next scene was GK hanging in the tree...

that was a long scene Rajesh... GK will appear close to nude there... RK will beat him to death using that stick that is used to drive the bullock-cart. Scene that i believe could have been avoided. Very unnecessary..

Only few scenes were entertaining, however the whole movie is a scrap. I didnt know how did these 2 ladies got united when such a fight was shown at the begining.
Judge providing car, Police leaving Arya and all such logic less scence can be left behind on the name of commercial. However the story plot, villans introduction at the death of the movie (just to make a stamp that its a Bala's movie) and many nastic dialogues, are not expected in Bala's movie.
There could be 2 reasons to take such movie by Bala
1. Either he doesnt know how to take a commercial movie
2. He has utilised all his knowledge and creation on his previous movies and so that he dont have more to spend,like Mysskin

Though not completely logical, its not very nonsense to accept. Also the plot of the movie is just vengeance for friendship and hence this can be tolerated. But in this case, the love scenes make most of the movie and a complete nonsense.

>> During the temple scene, where the guy who cheats GK comes to meet him, we can see that Ambica and Praba stands united. They fight externally, but stand united internally. Other dialogue, nasty to quote but.. "Indhallu pazhaya soraiyum pudhu sorayum onna saapuduvan"... proves that they are united :)

Watched Avan-Ivan review in @ Jaya TV by Suhasini today. It was more of a positive review though she accepted few issues. However Bala answered a couple of questions on 1) why this film deviated from his regular style? 2) knot about different characters in the film.
ReplyDeleteFor the first question, his reply was that "In his earlier films he concentrated only on his story and artist, but in this film he wanted to look about producer and distributor as well. Also he plainly accepted that this film was mainly to expose the acting talents in artists and he did that well".. For the second question, he was saying that introducing RK in the last 15 mins itself was kind of off-beat where other general tamil films introduce villian very early in the movie.
Suhashini was quoting the character of GK [vaazndhu ketta Jameendar, but still try to retain his position] in one of the SatyajitRay's films and asked Bala if that was his inspiration. However Bala denied that and said that GK character is real-life one [his uncle from Sethupathi Jameen] and not inspired from any other film. The only movie he saw by SatyajitRay was "Pather panjali".
